What to Expect During a Nurse Call Installation

Installing nurse call in a community where people live every day takes planning. Here's what the process looks like, from assessment to go-live, and how residents and staff are kept safe throughout.

Nurse call is life-safety infrastructure, so the most important rule of any installation is simple: residents are never left without a way to call for help. Everything else in the plan is built around that.

1. Assessment and design

Your authorized Poltys dealer begins with a site assessment: walking the building, surveying wireless coverage, reviewing existing equipment and wiring, and meeting with care, maintenance and IT leads. The result is a design showing every device, repeater and integration, plus a proposed schedule.

2. Planning around residents

Phased by area. Work is scheduled wing by wing or floor by floor, so only a small part of the building is affected at once.

Current system stays live. Your existing system keeps working until each area is tested and switched over.

Resident and family communication. A short notice explaining what is happening, when, and who to ask helps everyone feel prepared.

Respect for routines. In-room work is timed around meals, care and rest, especially in memory care.

3. Installation and testing

Devices are mounted, the server is configured with your floor plans, zones and staff, and every call point is tested. Each station, pendant and sensor is triggered and confirmed on the caregiver devices it should reach before an area goes live.

4. Training

Caregivers. Accepting, responding to and clearing alerts on their own devices.

Charge staff and managers. Using the live alarms board, adjusting assignments and pulling reports.

Maintenance. Responding to low-battery and device alerts, and replacing batteries and accessories.

Administrators. Managing users, zones and reporting schedules.

5. Go-live and beyond

At cutover, the team completes a final walk test and the old system is retired. In the first weeks, review response data with your dealer to fine-tune priorities and routing. A support agreement keeps software current and gives your team a clear path for help after installation.

With Direct Care Connect DCC™ from Poltys Canada, the same platform supports every phase, so what your team learns in the first wing applies everywhere after it.
